Squirrel Flats Studio in Ouray is the creative home of Joan Shapiro and the artistic director for Squirrel Flats Band. Holding a BA in Comparative Literature and an MSW in Clinical Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis, Shapiro’s diverse background includes work in book design, mental health advocacy, healthcare reform, and community organizing in St. Louis. After ten years in psychotherapy, she reframed her work as “Macrotherapy,” focusing on how larger social systems influence individual well-being, an outlook that informs the creative and philosophical spirit of Squirrel Flats Studio.

Jack and Jill Redlands Music Studio—a creative home for musicians of all ages and levels. We offer personalized lessons in violin, guitars, piano, bass guitar, drums, voice, ukelele, and mandolin, along with ear training, music theory, and on-hand instrument rentals, all guided by over 30 years of combined professional experience. Founded in 2009 by a husband-and-wife team from the touring band JACK+JILL, our studio blends real-world performance insight with thoughtful, student-centered instruction. Both teachers remain deeply active in the local music community through the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra, Western Colorado Chorale, and Colorado Mesa University, while also working as recording artists at studios including Fusion Audio Solutions and The Guitar Gentleman Studio, creating everything from concertos and commercials to rock n' roll and film score.
